Photos released by the University of Minnesota

"These photos of primates in the University of Minnesota labs were released by the University to the Student Organization For Animal Rights (SOAR) following a Minnesota Government Data Practices Act request. The species are long-tailed macaque, rhesus macaque, and baboon. Cage cards identify some of them as victims of Bernhard Hering's experiment; these animals are only 3 years old."

"The primates wearing the white "vests" shown in two of the photos have probably undergone transplants, with catheters left in and protected by the "vests." Some of the monkeys have a plastic "toy," either in the cages or attached to the bars; one photo shows a television. These ridiculous gestures indicate the level of interest the vivisectors have in providing adequate stimulation for the animals: next to zero."

Anonymous submissions

“In 1998, these photographs were submitted to the Student Organiziation For Animal Rights (SOAR) with a letter explaining that they had been taken in vivisection facilities at the University of Minnesota. The cages pictured are tiny and barren, and the animals are housed individually. They have almost no room to move and cannot physically interact with one another, much less engage in their natural social behavior.”
